US AIRWAYS DATA BREACH – PILOTS’ PERSONAL INFO LEAKED
US Airways’ pilots are at risk for identity theft after a recent data breach. The FBI and the US Airline Pilots Association (USAPA) have been working for several months after a data breach was discovered which includes the personal identifying information (PII) of over 3,000 US Airways’ pilots, according to Kelly Jackson Higgins, Dark Reading.
Higgins’ article quotes an US Airways spokesman as stating, “We take any claim of the breach of sensitive data very seriously.” The US Airways spokesperson also said that US Airways is offering 12 months of LifeLock’s identity theft watch services to the pilots.
USAPA, US Airways’ pilots’ union with over 5,200 members, publicly expressed its frustration with the airline’s handling of the case. USAPA said the airline recently revealed that a management-level pilot leaked a database of US Airways pilot names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and possibly passport information to a third-party pilot group.
